ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Our client, Robbins Sports Surfaces, is a one-hundred-year-old, privately held, manufacturer and distributor of high-quality wood and synthetic flooring for a variety of sports surfaces. They’re proud that 22 of the past 27 NBA championships have been won by teams that practice and/or play on a Robbins floor!  Colleges, high schools, YMCAs, recreation centers and fitness centers are all customers of Robbins. 

 

The company is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and operates manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin and Michigan.  With a total employee count of 180, they also provide warranty and maintenance services. Recognized for its commitment to service and innovation, the company sells primarily through a dealer network of specialty subcontractors and distribution partners.

 

Our client continues to set the industry standard for research and innovation. They also offer “environment-friendly” products designed to maximize the use of natural resources and minimize the waste going into the nation’s landfills.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development of short and longer term strategic plans in collaboration with the Chairman, Board of Advisors, and executive leadership team
  • Ensure that the plans, and the resulting strategies and budgets, are executed successfully

Operational Excellence

  • Review current operations through site visits and meetings with operations team
  • Work with manufacturing leadership to identify opportunities to improve product costs and production efficiencies
  • Introduce systems and procedures to ensure continued operational discipline

Executive Team Leadership

  • Lead an executive team that includes leaders in finance, operations, product development, sales, customer service, IT, marketing and human resources
  • Empower the team, through coaching and mentoring, to promote career growth and improved performance

P&L Responsibility

  • Drive topline revenue growth through existing products/channels as well as new products and channel development
  • Focus on margin enhancement through operational efficiencies and supply chain improvements

Market Focus

  • Interact with key customers to understand the company’s strengths and opportunities
  • Gain insight into industry trends and competitive activity to drive innovation and new product initiatives
  • Direct new marketing activities to strengthen the company’s brand and support the introduction of new products and growth strategies

Organizational Leadership

  • Reinforce the company’s core values throughout the organization
  • Build company morale and enhanced employee engagement
  • Help to create a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company

Financial management

  • Work closely with the CFO to ensure that the company is meeting its financial targets
  • Establish and track key metrics to enable the senior management team to evaluate progress and identify problems in a timely manner
  • Provide regular reports to the Chairman and Board of Advisors

 

THE KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA or other advanced degree a plus
  • 10+ years in a key leadership position
  • General management and P&L responsibility for a company, division or manufacturing operation
  • Strong financial acumen and experience working with capital and credit providers
  • Experience being the face of an organization with employees, key customers, suppliers and other business partners
  • Extensive operations experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Team management experience with multiple direct reports from a variety of disciplines
  • Demonstrated success interacting with customers to drive loyalty and referrals
  • History of driving growth through new product introductions or new channel strategies to take the business to the next level
  • Familiarity with building products/wood products/flooring industries a plus
  • Experience selling through dealer networks as well as wholesalers a plus
  • Demonstrated success working in a private or family business culture
  • An entrepreneurial approach and “can do” attitude
