ABOUT OUR CLIENT:

Our client is Fund Evaluation Group (“FEG”, feg.com), an employee-owned, full-service investment advisory firm with more than three decades of experience helping institutional investors build portfolios for the long term. FEG provides research, investment management, consulting and outsourced CIO services to its institutional clients, many of which operate as non-profits dedicated to educational assistance, community enrichment and healthcare delivery.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:  

Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will join a highly-engaged leadership team. The CFO will provide a seasoned and well-informed financial perspective to peers, the CEO and the Board of Directors, especially with respect to capital allocation, M&A and other strategic decisions. Leading a small team that includes an experienced Controller, the CFO oversees all accounting, financial planning and reporting activities and will play a hands-on role in developing/implementing tools and procedures which augment the health of the firm and financial transparency within it.  

 

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure disciplined financial planning cadence (budgets, profit and cash flow forecasts) and timely, accurate external financial reporting
  • Contribute directly to strategy providing financial insight, direction and recommendations to guide resource allocation and other strategic decisions
  • Lead M&A efforts to evaluate, finance and integrate complementary businesses
  • Ensure positive relations with professional service providers (e.g. lender, auditor, tax advisor, legal counsel, insurance firm, valuation firm, ESOP trustee, etc.)
  • Manage and monitor corporate risk
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment
  • Maintain adequate insurance coverage
  • Collaborate with HR to evaluate health insurance
  • Lead the finance team providing coaching and mentorship to enhance its contribution to FEG
  • Develop, implement and fully leverage tools to augment transparent internal financial reporting
  • Evaluate and, as necessary, augment policies / procedures to reduce financial and operational risk
  • Work closely with compliance, IT and Operations to sustain business continuity, disaster recovery and cybersecurity efforts
  • Manage company 401(k) plan and ESOP; determine appropriate ESOP distribution policy

 

IDEAL CANDIDATES’ QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, required (MBA preferred)
  • Certified Public Accountant, required (active status highly preferred)
  • 15+ years relevant financial experience (prior experience as CFO within financial or professional services highly preferred)
  • Evident strategic acumen and forward-looking mindset
  • History of successful talent assessment, development and team leadership
  • M&A experience, especially due diligence, integration and related financing
  • Knowledge of investments or investment advisory industry
  • Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, etc. to illuminate financial results
  • Demonstrated track record of process and/or systems implementation and improvement
  • ESOP experience
