CLIENT SUMMARY: 

Our client, Towne Construction Services (TCS), has been around since 2005, specializing in commercial excavation, underground utilities, asphalt paving, and site and building concrete. The Townescapes division specializes in landscape and outdoor living design-build installations sold directly to homeowners. TCS officially formed in 2008 to focus on commercial and municipal site development projects. Chris Bortz, president of Towne Construction Services, and the TCS leadership team bring a combined 150 years of construction and development experience to the company. Towne Construction Services has built a strong reputation of success and quality and ethical practices.  

 

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY:

The CFO will report directly to the President as a member of an entrepreneurial and collaborative executive team and lead a small group of accounting and HR professionals. The CFO will earn trusted advisor status with his / her peers and elevate financial literacy of the entire organization by:

 

  • developing organizational KPIs (especially WIP metrics),
  • bringing an informed financial perspective to key decisions such as capital expansion, tax situations, debt structure, customer pricing, growth opportunities (organic and acquisition),
  • proactively seeking & addressing opportunities for operational improvements,
  • delivering transparent, reliable and timely financial information to company leaders, and
  • enhancing the financial forecasting process.    

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business partnership: 

  • Contribute directly to strategy and provide financial insight, guidance, direction, management and recommendations to guide resource allocation and other strategic decisions
  • Understand the business sufficiently to:
  • explain financial results in a business context (provide the story behind the numbers),
  • recommend present actions that will augment future financial results, and
  • recognize and proactively exploit opportunities for improvement
    • Assess financial risk / rewards of growth and other strategic initiatives 

Financial excellence:

  • Lead and augment:
  • a financial planning (budgeting and forecasting) and reporting process that is timely and accurate,
  • a strong internal control environment, and
  • positive relations with lenders and other professional service vendors
    • Drive financial literacy and sound, proactive decision making through the leadership team and help peers identify countermeasures when challenges arise
    • Develop organizational and performance metrics
    • Understand general economic, business and financial conditions and anticipate their impact on the company results and plans

 

IDEAL CANDIDATES’ QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED

  • BS Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 12 years or more of financial experience
  • Dashboard / KPI development
  • Significant WIP/% complete experience
  • Evidence of strong leadership and strategic / entrepreneurial acumen

 

PREFERRED

  • Family business experience
  • Experience managing relationships with credit providers (banks)
  • HR management experience
  • M&A analysis, due diligence and / or integration experience
  • An understanding of corporate and individual taxes
