Nurtur owns Aveda Institutes located in Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Chapel Hill, NC and Los Angeles, CA where students receive robust, hands-on experience to prepare them for a fulfilling career in the beauty industry upon graduation. Each of the Aveda Institutes provide full salon and spa services performed by a talented team of supervised students participating in outstanding cosmetology and esthetics programs. What You’ll Be Doing:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will play a critical role in decision making and operations for the company.  The successful candidate will have a “hands-on” DNA and lead a (currently) small accounting team and payroll specialist.  More specifically, the Controller will: 

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly interim and annual financial reporting of each subsidiary unit and consolidated results 
  • Support M&A activity, especially integration
  • Assess accounting operations and systems to identify opportunities for efficiency and implement changes
  • Develop and communicate consistent accounting policies, practices and procedures
  • Evaluate and, as necessary, augment policies / procedures to maintain a strong internal control environment that minimizes financial and operational risk
  • Provide information necessary to support decision making
  • Coordinate timing and activity of external auditors
  • Oversee the payroll process
  • Provide dynamic leadership to her/his team - investing in their development, clearly communicating priorities and expectations, providing transparent and constructive feedback 


Ideal Candidate Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive) highly preferred
  • 7+ years’ experience as Controller or Assistant Controller (5+ years for candidates currently in public accounting)
  • Evidently strong understanding of GAAP and prior experience with consolidations and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated track record of process improvement and/or systems conversion experience preferred
  • QuickBooks and/or NetSuite experience a plus
  • History of successful talent assessment, team leadership and development
  • Mergers and acquisitions integration experience a plus
