The magazine’s circulation targets a well-educated and affluent readership of over 130,000. There is also close collaboration with the team in Cincinnati leading Cincinnati Magazine.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Indianapolis Monthly is looking for an Account Representative with outside sales experience selling to business owners or C-level executives in a highly competitive, fast-paced environment. This is a unique opportunity to join an iconic brand in Indianapolis and contribute to growth and lifestyle in the community!
Reporting to the Sales Director, you must excel at finding and closing new opportunities in a short sales cycle and have excellent questioning and listening skills. This person will be highly motivated and goal-oriented with a confident and ambitious attitude. Located on the northwest side of the city near the Pyramids, the magazine seeks someone who will bring creative energy to the role and help to build a roadmap for the future. And importantly – work with a team who likes to have fun!
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Develop new business for utilizing and maximizing all platforms including, but not limited to, print, digital, and event sponsorships.
- Maintain a book of business in the Indianapolis market.
- Collaborate with the editorial and art team in Indianapolis and build relationships with your team’s counterparts with Cincinnati Magazine.
- Sell to your audience in a manner that benefits advertisers and appeals to readers.
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally in journalism, communications, or marketing.
- Minimum 2 years of successful sales experience.
- Drive Revenue Growth – Experienced in meeting or exceeding sales quotas, developing new business, and expanding client accounts.
- Client Relationship & Storytelling Skills – Utilize genuine interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong advertiser and agency relationships while effectively communicating brand value and tailoring media solutions that resonate with client objectives.
- Business & Market Acumen – Skilled in learning the business, competitive landscape, and customer needs with the ability to translate that into tailored solutions that drive results.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
The successful candidate will live in the Indianapolis regional area. You’ll have a great hybrid schedule – when not meeting with clients, you’ll be in the Indianapolis Monthly office Tuesday through Thursday and work from home on Monday and Friday. Some regional travel should be expected. Compensation will transition to 100% commission within the first 6 – 8 months at a point where this transition becomes beneficial to you. Additionally, you’ll start with 3 weeks of PTO.
