ABOUT THE COMPANIES

We are working with two clients who are located on the same campus in Harrison, OH. They recently divided their shared HR Director role into two new HR Manager roles, each supporting one of the companies.

Beginning with their own line of air compressors, Powerex has been designing and assembling systems since 1988.  Powerex has built a foundation on engineering, innovation, quality, and service to become a leader in vacuum and compressor systems for the medical and industrial markets. With 160 employees including an additional facility near Nashville, Powerex is committed to providing the best value in the markets they serve by applying these pillars of their foundation into every system they build.

Scott Fetzer is a diversified manufacturer and marketer of high-quality products for the home, family, and industry comprised of more than 20 businesses. In early 2018, Scott Fetzer brought together Halex, Ginsu Brands and Wayne Water Systems to form Scott Fetzer Consumer Brands (SFCB). Now with ~200 employees, including a facility in Central Tennessee, the core purpose of SFCB is to develop extraordinary products and services to help consumers protect, enjoy and connect their homes, and their customers trust and depend on their brands for all their DIY and home needs.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

As the Human Resources Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of HR across the Harrison, OH corporate office and locations in Tennessee. Your role will encompass overseeing HR and payroll teams, training, talent management, succession planning, labor and employee relations, policy development, performance management, and talent acquisition. Reporting directly to the Group President of the Company, you’ll be based in Harrison, OH. Occasional travel to Tennessee locations required. As the Human Resources Manager, you will:

  • Foster collaborative and diverse teams that align with business goals, promoting coordination and teamwork.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic objectives and goals for various sites.
  • Manage succession planning, identifying future leaders among associates.
  • Lead talent acquisition, ensuring effective selection and hiring processes.
  • Provide solutions that mutually benefit the company and associates, offering guidance on contract interpretation and conflict resolution.
  • Foster positive relationships between management and associates, minimizing conflict through effective communication.
  • Oversee Total Rewards programs in alignment with company directives.
  • Ensure compliance through policies, procedures, and HR information systems.
  • Uphold corporate policies, government regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Serve as an integral member of the site Senior Leadership team.
  • Drive retention programs and initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, conduct performance reviews and offer feedback.
  • Collaborate on organizational planning, evaluating structures, job designs, and manpower forecasting.
  • Manage relationships with the union workforce, resolving grievances, and leading negotiations periodically when necessary. A 5-year contract was just negotiated in 2022.
  • Facilitate talent management processes, identifying high-potential individuals, retaining key team members, and promoting top performers.
  • Administer benefits according to union agreements and corporate policies.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate or bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree with a concentration in Human Resources preferred.
  • Preferred certifications: Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and/or Member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM)
  • 5+ years of HR Generalist/Manager/Business Partner experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Union experience preferred
  • Established history of effectively recruiting and onboarding employees at all levels.
  • Prior involvement in managing payroll processing (experience with ADP is preferred).
  • Highly proficient in Human Resources principles, practices, systems, and protocols, with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Thorough understanding and expertise in employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to deliver information and communicate effectively in various settings.
