WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Reporting directly to Executive Leadership, this hands-on Controller will manage all financial aspects of the high-performing consulting engineering and construction subsidiary companies including monthly close process and financial reporting, budgets and forecasts, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role will also:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in compliance with GAAP.
- Lead the implementation of a new ERP platform for the consulting engineering business including the integration of data from an existing obsolete system.
- Lead the implementation of a new accounting platform for the construction subsidiary including the integration of project financials from Procore.
- Streamline the accounts payable, account receivable, budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes.
- Proactively establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on monthly and annual basis.
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines for consulting and construction projects with the Project Coordinators.
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to Executive Leadership and Project Managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points via standardized reporting.
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage the coordination of external audits and tax filings, ensuring that all necessary documentation and compliance requirements are met.
- Train and develop accounting staff.
- Communicate with other management functions to facilitate effective operations and exceptional customer service.
- Ensure on-time payments to contractors according to state laws.
- Manage and handle payroll and benefits administration.
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- 10+ years of accounting experience. Construction, engineering, or architectural firm experience preferred but not required.
- Professional certification (CPA, CMA) preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles, and financial regulations.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
- Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience in managing audits and tax filings.
- Experience with ERP implementations and streamlining accounting processes.
- Experience in mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs is preferred.
