WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The Controls Engineer will report to the Engineering Tool Manager and work closely with the Global Engineering and Marketing Teams in the development of new automation and robotics equipment. This person will play a key role in advancing Senco’s growing robotics and automation initiatives while also supporting and improving existing production systems.
Specifically, the Controls Engineer will:
- Update, modify, and continuously improve existing controls systems including robotic programs, ladder logic programs, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interface, hydraulics, and pneumatics distribution and control
- Design and develop new machine controls including robotic, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and vision systems
- Create, maintain, and keep current all hard copies and electronic data bases: all electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics; panel layouts; PLC, operator display, operator interface, and robot programs; machine power distribution and all related vendor controls component part documentation
- Implement and maintain data collection system from shop floor processing equipment
- Maintain and expand existing machinery to Ethernet gateways, links, and connections.
- Participate in continual improvement activities.
- Electrical/Mechanical/Hydraulic/Pneumatic system design and simulation.
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field preferred; equivalent technical experience may also be considered
- 5+ years of experience in controls engineering within manufacturing, robotics, automation, automotive, conveyor systems, or similar environments
- Strong experience with structured text or comparable computer programming language
- Experience with PLC programming including Allen Bradley and/or Siemens (Beckhoff and Unitronics experience a plus)
- Working knowledge of I/O communication protocols including Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP/IP
- Ability to understand and work across both hardware and software (PLCs, sensors, electrical systems, and programming)
- Ability to properly document systems and maintain accurate schematics and I/O lists (AutoCAD experience preferred)
