WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

The Engineering Manager is directly responsible for ensuring the engineering department provides the technical expertise to design manufacturable complex solutions for customer applications and develop the associated SOPs, working documents, and bills of material to execute those designs. 

Interpersonal Responsibilities

  • Ensures the engineering department can fulfill customer commitments and achieving performance goals and objectives. Selects and trains people who reflect the values of the organization and possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to deliver superior performance.
  • Provides feedback on technical skill requirements and assures team continuity through the development of high potential employees, closing gaps in key areas, along with the development of plans that address future staffing needs.
  • Delivers high levels of service and improves the department’s effectiveness through coaching, training and problem solving. Fosters an environment of collaboration and willingness to embrace change and innovation to set OMNI apart from the competition.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Establishes and oversees the systems, policies, processes and operating plans that drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering functions.
  • Responsible for developing accurate cost estimates that meet customer requirements, and to understand the necessary resources (technical and capacity) for meeting quality and delivery objectives.
  • Oversees the workflow for product design and feasibility studies; assesses project fit and risks, validates costs estimates.
  • Assesses available manufacturing and engineering resources and capacity to accomplish short and long-term goals and meet customer requirements and delivery dates.
  • Responsible for Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action / Preventative Action for projects that do not meet gross margin expectations. Uses this information to continuously improve the estimating process and expand the engineering team’s knowledge of the organization’s operational and technical capabilities.
  • Monitors the department’s functions and operating systems and drives continuous improvement. Collaborates with the manufacturing and quality teams to improve efficiency and standardize components and processes to manage costs and lead times. Monitors metrics associated with continuous improvement initiatives and investigates constraints preventing reductions in cost and quality improvements.
  • Encourages and seeks opportunities with the manufacturing team to identify and implement engineering and manufacturing process improvements. Focuses on organizational wide technical capabilities, understanding resource requirements, and developing recommendations for addressing issues that impact quality, lead times, and/or product fit.
  • Manages the engineering team’s activities in collaboration with the manufacturing team to improve the profitability of underperforming products, through the development of new manufacturing processes or product design changes.
  • Acts as a sounding board and provides guidance and assistance with managing escalated customer support issues.
  • Travels with the sales team as needed to provide technical assistance to OMNI’s customers, building rapport and trust with key partners.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Develops the operating plan for resources and staffing levels.
  • Tracks and reports on key performance indicators. Provides the Director of Operations and leadership team analyses of trends and the critical success factors that influence performance outcomes.
  • Provides input for vetting the viability of opportunities and market strategies for the organization’s growth and advancement.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or another related technical field
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
  • Proficient in CAD/CAE/CAM
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015 or another standards certification program
  • Minimum 2 years leadership experience
