WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The Non-Profit Tax Services Leader will be responsible for applying industry specific knowledge to advise clients in a diverse group of nonprofit organizations including tax-exempt organizations, foundations, charities, and credit unions. This role will oversee the GBQ tax nonprofit team. This role actively participates in marketing, networking, and business development while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary tax contact for complex questions. This individual will focus on four major initiatives established by the firm: Profitability, Practice Growth; Client Focus; and Brand Culture/Development. Key responsibilities include the following:
- Lead the GBQ tax non-profit tax practice, including all operational facets, project oversight, team development, and strategic planning.
- Perform detailed level of review of Form 990, Form 990-T tax returns. Director will be responsible for signing returns and collaborating with team to deliver a high-quality product to clients.
- Engage with clients that meet their specific needs.
- Plan and review tax processes and procedures to achieve engagement management metrics.
- Identify when research is needed and utilize technical skills to perform research which provides a clear and concise analysis.
- Stay updated on legislative changes and industry trends to ensure compliance and relevance.
- Consult and respond to assistance from other GBQ offices on nonprofit tax issues that arise
PROFITABILITY
- Play a pivotal role in the GBQ nonprofit leadership team, contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at developing people and revenue growth.
- Consistently achieve targets for realization, utilization and collection of A/R established by department.
- Establish and implement policies that improve departmental processes and efficiencies.
- Consistently utilize all firm and department software efficiently.
- Manage multiple clients and deliver a high-quality product in a timely manner that meets or exceeds clients’ expectations and internal deadlines.
PRACTICE GROWTH
- Support marketing efforts with expert knowledge and other technical guidance to help attract new business.
- Demonstrate effective communication, leadership, and people skills.
- Demonstrate networking and other practice development skills.
CLIENT FOCUS
- Demonstrate ability to identify client opportunities, risks, and issues, and communicate recommendations to clients and firm associates.
- Develop and maintain client relationships.
- Demonstrate appropriate understanding of client’s business and resources available to provide value to clients.
- Effectively manage competing priorities and projects under tight deadlines while exceeding client expectations.
- Possesses executive presence and ability to function as primary tax client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients.
BRAND CULTURE|DEVELOPMENT
- Exemplify brand attributes of the firm.
- Support and ensure adherence to all administrative policies and procedures of the firm.
- Exhibit ability to work independently, have confidence in his/her ability to address and resolve conflict with peers, subordinates, and firm leaders.
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting finance or bachelor’s degree in any other focus area.
- CPA certification required.
- 10 or more years of prior relevant nonprofit experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
- Strong experience with professional services and leading teams and/or managing projects.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple prominent work projects simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to delegate work as needed.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Reliable transportation for on-site client work. Ability to be on-site at a client or GBQ office up to 50% of the time.
- The ability to work evenings and weekends based on time of year and client demands.
