Our long-term client, based in Southeast Indiana, is a market leader in customized capital equipment manufacturing. In business for over 100 years, our client sells into various processing industries and is currently experiencing rapid sales and profit growth both in North and South America.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Purchasing Manager will understand and value the relationship between Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing as well as other functions and will keep communications open. This role will lead the recruitment and growth of the purchasing team and cultivate strong ties with suppliers. Responsibilities include implementing purchasing protocols, collaborating with various departments to identify new suppliers, and contributing to strategic planning. Leveraging the ERP system, the candidate will suggest cost-saving measures and play a vital role in enhancing workflow and overall efficiency. The Purchasing Manager will:

  • Maintain effective communications – open and robust both up and down the chain of command
  • Hire, train, develop and evaluate purchasing department employees
  • Develop and maintain good relationships and open communication with suppliers
  • Develop and implement purchasing and inventory control procedures to optimize work flow
  • Communicate part delivery timing to production and management
  • Identify, evaluate and develop new suppliers for goods and services in collaboration with other departments
  • Collaborate with management team to support proper stock levels to support customer demand
  • Determine optimal order quantity and stock level to avoid stock-outs while achieving best cost
  • Perform root cause analysis/corrective action for stock-outs, missed deliveries, non-conformance and cycle count discrepancies to proactively drive permanent solutions
  • Prepare requests for quote (RFQ) and purchase orders (PO) for raw materials, subcontract parts and operations, and service contracts
  • Review market, price, delivery conditions and trends to determine present and future material availability and direct purchasing programs accordingly
  • Monitor and expedite existing orders as required to ensure on time deliveries
  • Set dollar authorization limits for purchasing department
  • Oversee disposal of surplus material and scrap products
  • Manage suppliers when significant variations arise in delivery, quality, price or conditions of sale
  • Fully embrace the company’s quality system to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement
  • Manage yearly physical inventory count process
  • Participate in the development and formulation of long and short-range strategic planning process
  • Utilize and expand the use of EPICOR ERP to further company goals
  • Recommend areas to reduce costs or improve the effectiveness of expenditures

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Purchasing, Inventory Control or related field
  • Professional Purchasing certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, with Purchasing management experience preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and ERP software applications
  • Professional purchasing certifications preferred
  • Must be willing to visit suppliers, both domestic and international. A valid driver’s license and passport are required.
